Tiempo means both “time” and “weather” The verb ‘ser’ is used to describe time. Ej: Es la una. It’s one o’clock. Son las dos. It’s two o’clock. Only one o’clock uses the singular form of ‘ser’

When we state the minutes, it can get kind of tricky. Up to the 30 minute mark, we say “Son las ____ y ____” Ej: Son las dos y cinco. It’s 2:05.

But after the 30 minute mark, we go up to the next hour and then subtract the minutes. This follows the structure “Son las _____ menos ______” Ej: Son las cinco menos 10. It’s 4:50.

We can say “Es la una” to say “one o’clock” or we can say “Es la una en punto” which means that it’s one o’clock exactly. Ej: “Son las nueve en punto”
